Code Enforcement’s main goal is to protect the integrity of public health, safety and welfare. They control the quality of life issues, nuisances and violations of the health regulations that concern private, commercial and industrial properties, as well as all land use enforcement. Zoning Ordinances, Building Codes, Fire Codes and State Housing Laws are only a few enforcement tools which help control those dwellings that are substandard or unfit for human habitation, therefore endangering their lives. In other words, Code Enforcement Officers also save lives by gaining compliance. In addition, Code Enforcement, in the eyes of law enforcement, is a an important tool for crime prevention because the results are a positive restoration strategy. It is simply the Broken Window Theory in which abandoned and neglected properties attract criminal behavior because it is a sign that no one cares. Code Enforcement services reminds everyone that someone does care… Learner Objectives: - This presentation will help all levels of code enforcement officers and professions acquire a better understanding and respect on what the Code Enforcement profession entails.

I have twenty-five years of experience in enforcement and am well rounded in other vital experiences that are related to the Code Enforcement profession. I have university studies in Architecture from the Preparatoria, Instituto Tecnico y Humanistico de Toluca, Mexico and the Universidad del Estado de Mexico, Toluca Mexico, having a acquired a Bachillerato in technicalArchitectural studies. My eight years of teaching experience, being a certified Mediator and bilingual knowledge (Spanish and basic French) have allowed me to understand important educational aspects of certain challenges in field work as well as internally amongst my peers. I have been a Code Enforcement trainer for the mandatory Annual Officer Training (AOT) for law enforcement and fire fighters as well as many other key outside key agencies in partnership and in my current employment. My passion for the CodeEnforcement profession is at its highest peak and am determined to help and educate on the importance of our services. Code Enforcement services do save lives.
