Decisions made at the state level shape the tools, authority, and protections they rely on to do that work effectively. Through our legislative efforts, CACEO helps ensure that policy reflects the realities of the field and uplifts the people and communities at the heart of it

As the only statewide organization dedicated to this work, CACEO partners with lawmakers, members, and community stakeholders to shape legislation that promotes ethical enforcement, officer safety, and vibrant, healthy neighborhoods.

Our Legislative Mission

Our goal is to ensure that policy reflects the realities of the field while strengthening the profession for the future.

CACEO’s Legislative Committee plays an important role in shaping those laws. It works to ensure that Code Enforcement Professionals are

• Supported by policies that address the real challenges faced in the field
• Empowered with effective enforcement tools
• Recognized for their role in building healthier, more equitable communities

Legislative Priorities include:

1. Supporting legislation that protects the safety, credibility, and professional authority of Code Enforcement Officers
2. Encouraging statewide consistency to ensure fair and effective enforcement practices across communities
3. Speaking out against proposals that could weaken local problem-solving tools or limit enforcement capacity
4. Bringing real-world field experience into policy conversations—so legislation reflects the day-to-day challenges of the profession
5. Keeping both members and the public informed, engaged, and connected to the legislative process
