State law authorizes cities and counties to abate these nuisances, and code enforcement provides the tools. This course will discuss the powerful laws that empower local jurisdictions to protect their communities and deal with these issues, and will also cover tactical approaches. Attendees should take away a strong understanding of their jurisdiction’s options for dealing with drug houses, gang houses and places used for prostitution/human trafficking, as well as concrete tools for doing so.

 


Curtis Wright, Partner at Silver & Wright, LLC

Curtis Wright is also a founding partner of S&W. He is a graduate of the University of Southern California, and the University of La Verne School of Law. He served two tours of duty in the Army and was honorably discharged as a Captain prior to entering law school. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 2010. During the past several years, he has represented over 50 cities and counties throughout the State of California as a municipal attorney and City Prosecutor for many municipalities throughout the State. Mr. Wright specializes in assisting cities with civil and criminal code enforcement, receiverships, police services and Pitchess defense. Mr. Wright has successfully represented municipal agencies throughout the State in administrative, criminal, and civil litigation. He has secured numerous criminal convictions and receivership appointments for substandard and blighted nuisance properties. He has also pioneered new and efficient methods of improving code enforcement effectiveness. Mr. Wright has been published multiple times on various legal topics and has taught classes and led presentations on various aspects of municipal law, receiverships, marijuana regulation, and cost recovery. Curtis is a Director for Zero Graffiti International, an international graffiti fighting non-profit organization.


As a member of CACEO, Mr. Wright has provided essential services as an instructor and presenter to a variety of classes and events all over the state of California. His continued services have ensured the integrity and quality of code enforcement officers that continue to be a part of CACEO.
