How do I get certified?
You will need to complete the three educational modules through CACEO or an approved third party provider. The modules must have taken place within five years of the date of application. These modules will be listed on our event calendar as they come up and may be taken in any order. Once you have completed the three modules, you will need to complete the application form and the $200 fee payment.
Alternatively, CACEO members with five or more years of code enforcement experience can opt to take the Substitute Service Exam to become certified. It is a two-hour proctored exam and a score of 75% or higher is required to pass. The Substitute Service Exam opportunity will only be offered through 2023, after which all applicants will be required to complete CACEO's Academy Modules.
How do I renew my certification?
To renew your Certified Code Enforcement Officer (CCEO) designation, you must complete 48 hours of continuing education (CEUs) every three years. Prior to expiration, you will need to submit the renewal application along with payment.

How do I know how many continuing education units (CEUs) I have?
First, log-in to your membership account. Once logged in, click My Education Record which is located under the Education tab on the homepage of the website.
What if I don't have enough credits to renew?
If you do not complete the 48 CEU requirement to renew, you may apply for amnesty. Amnesty extends your expiration date out for an extra year. You may only apply for amnesty once, and you must apply for amnesty prior to the expiration of your certification.

What if I did not renew my certification prior to expiration?
CCEOs are required to apply to renew their certification prior to expiration. If a CCEO fails to renew prior to expiration, you may apply for Redemption within one year following the expiration if sufficient credits have been obtained.
