Officer Safety Alert - CACEO Needs Your Help

Monday, November 30, 2020

Code Enforcement Officers are put in dangerous and hazardous situations every day, just doing their jobs, especially as they are increasingly asked to enforce COVID-related laws, and traditional safety issues.

CACEO is dedicated to improving Code Enforcement Officer Safety standards Statewide. That is why CACEO is working to re-introduce its Code Enforcement Officer Safety Standards Bill in the State Legislature. This would require every city and county to establish safety standards specific to Code Enforcement Officers and the dangers they face in their jurisdiction – whether physical dangers or from exposure to hazardous conditions.

However, due to the uptick in COVID cases, we have been informed the State Legislature will, again, be taking few bills this year. To help ensure the safety bill is introduced and passed, we need your help to show the Legislature the type and scope of dangers Code Enforcement Officers face.

You can help by sending CACEO information on any and all safety incidents you or colleagues in your department have faced doing your job.  This includes physical safety incidents, threats, stalking, exposure to hazardous conditions, etc. – any safety related incidents.

You do not need to provide your name or your agency’s name, although more detail is helpful.  And please share a short paragraph about the incident if you are able.

A link to the form is provided here, although you may also email the information directly to CACEO’s Executive Director, Will Hixson at whixson@caceo.us

CACEO will be putting this data together to share with the Legislature to help this bill succeed, but your name (If provided) will not be shared.

You can help CACEO improve safety standards for yourself, your department and your colleagues by simply taking a few minutes to submit this information.
