CACEO Helps Reverse Parole for Murderer of Police Officer

Monday, October 19, 2020

For the seventh time, a panel of the Board of Parole Hearings granted parole to cop-killer Jesus Cecena.  Cecena was convicted of the execution style murder of San Diego Police Officer Archie Buggs.  Cecena, a San Diego gang member, shot Officer Buggs five times, then callously walked over to the wounded Officer Buggs and shot him in the head, execution style.  After Cecena was convicted and sent to prison, he composed a prison ballad celebrating the murder.  That ballad circulated throughout the prison system.  Notwithstanding the circumstances of this murder, the Board of Parole Hearings once again granted Cecena parole.

Fortunately, CACEO petitioned Governor Newsom to overturn that grant of parole.  Under California law the Governor has the authority to reject any parole that was granted for murder.  In response to CACEO's petition to Governor Newsom, the grant of parole to cop-killer Jesus Cecena, has,for the seventh time, been overturned, and Cecena continues to serve his life sentence.
