The designation of Certified Code Enforcement Officer (CCEO) can be obtained in two ways: 1) by completing and passing Module I (Basic), Module II (Intermediate) and Module III (Advanced) levels; or 2) by meeting the qualifications outlined in Section 3.2.7.2 of the CACEO Administrative Regulations and passing the Substituted Service Certification Exam.  The Substituted Service Certification exam will only be available until December 31, 2023, after which all applicants for certified status shall be required to attend all currently certified Module Courses.

Academy Module Exams

Each level (Module I, 2, 3) has a specific examination at the completion of the course. Each examination is timed and is designed to test your knowledge of the subject areas. The examination process allows open book and open note. As is the case with any timed open-book exam, the time allotted for research is limited. Applicants who successfully complete all exams with a cumulative score of 75% shall be eligible to apply for CCEO status. 

Once successfully completing the required work necessary to become a CCEO, applicants shall complete an application and accompanying forms, pay application fee of $200.00 prior to receiving the CCEO designation. Please visit: https://www.caceo.us/page/CCEO_Application 

Substituted Service Certification Exam

The exam will consist of subject matter questions taken from Modules I, 2 and 3. The exam is to be taken in one siting within 2 hours and is designed to test your knowledge of the subject areas. The examination process allows open book and open note. As is the case with any timed open-book exam, the time allotted for research is limited. Applicants who successfully complete the exam with a cumulative score of 75% shall be eligible to apply for CCEO status.

Substituted Service Certification Exam Fees for 2019:  $200.00

To register for this exam, please visit the Education & Events calendar and complete the online registration. Only CACEO members may sit for the Substituted Service Certification Exam. Requests are reviewed to ensure that the applicant has met the work experience criteria in order to sit for exams. 


Certification by Third Party Provider (3PEPP)

CACEO recognizes the following colleges as third party providers:

Irvine Valley College (2015-2018)

CACEO will continue to honor Irvine Valley College certificates, they must be submitted within three years of their date in order to be considered for certification purposes. 

An administrative fee of $65.00 per certificate is required to be honored by CACEO.
