Behavioral Threat Assessment PREVENTING THE ACTIVE SHOOTER COURSE DATE: Friday February 27, 2026 | 0800-1700 hours LOCATION: Mather, CA – Address will be provided upon completion of registration COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to teach an evidence and research-based behavioral threat assessment methodology to equip law enforcement, healthcare professionals and public security stakeholders with the skills and tools necessary to identify potentially violent individuals, assess the risks they pose of engaging in targeted violence, proactively manage the risk, and prevent violent attacks that include active shooter and mass casualty attacks.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: - Fundamentals of behavioral threat assessment.
- Threat identification, including warning behaviors which potentially indicate a subject is on the pathway to violence to carry out a targeted violent attack.
- Application of behavioral threat assessment techniques in a variety of contexts and environments including (but not limited to) the workplace, schools, places of worship, public spaces, and other potentially vulnerable areas in the community.
 INSTRUCTOR: Kevin Smith has designed and delivered foundational and advanced behavioral
threat assessment training courses to a wide variety of thousands of security stakeholders, including law enforcement personnel from the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Department of Diplomatic Security Service, the Major Crimes Division and Threat Management Unit of the Los Angeles Police Department, military personnel, educators, school and campus administrators, corporate and private security personnel, mental health professionals, and human resources personnel. REGISTRATION: There is no registration fee. Travel/per diem expenses are the responsibility of the attendee. Registration is via the training calendar on the website www.ccic.ca.gov. CERTIFICATE: This course is POST certified under plan N/A 1279-22316. STC# 10322-82703. The CCIC will supply a certificate of completion at the end of the course. This course is eligible for 8 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for EMTs and Paramedics.
